Host your own Great Bear Rainforest Movie Night

Invite your community group, family and friends on a journey into the Great Bear Rainforest and take action together.

Watch the video about the Great Bear Rainforest and hear how others like you are taking action to protect it.

• In a group, discuss the rainforest, and the challenges and opportunities for turning this monumental agreement to protect the forest into reality.

• Plan how your group will take action to educate others and make the agreement real on-the-ground.

To help, Greenpeace will:
• provide a copy of the video and tool kit
• suggest ideas on what action you can take.

Tips for Hosting Your Party:

Pick a date and select who you want to invite. Once you’ve decided, register your movie night on the website standtall.greenpeace.ca.

  • Send out invitations (see the sample invitation in Samples and Materials). Be sure to invite enough people who might be interested in the issue to ensure a good discussion.
  • Organize what you’ll need for the evening. Think about the venue, food, and projector/tv/dvd player.
  • E-mail some information about the Great Bear Rainforest to your guests before the event so they can arrive prepared. Encourage them to go to www.greenpeace.ca to check out the pages on the Great Bear Rainforest.
  • Read the background material in this tool kit and make copies for people to take home at the end of the evening. Prepare some questions to spark the discussion after the video. For example: What do you think are some of the factors that contributed to the success of Greenpeace’s rainforest work? What is so special about the Great Bear Rainforest? Although one-third of the forest is saved from the chainsaw, what more is left to be done for the rainforest?
  • Create an action plan for how your group will make a difference after the movie night. Have everyone sign in and leave their contact information so that people can stay in touch.
